Google Plus

So, I see that Google Plus is shutting down, which is a shame. I don't really do social media these days (I think I have a Twitter account but I don't really use it, and I'm on LinkedIn, which again, I don't really use. I wasn't really a prolific Google Plus user either but I liked what I saw and it felt a lot cleaner than other social media networks (SMNs). I liked the simplicity of it and, over time, it grew to feel a hell of a lot less creepy than Facebook. I've grown to not really be a huge fan of social media, if only because I think it encourages oversharing (and that's what this blog is for... lol). At present you can find me on Twitter and... that's pretty much it at present, though I am going to try and work up a website for almost everything I write.

Game of Thrones Conjecture

Having been beguiled (finally) into watching Game of Thrones and discovering that I've either grown up enough to want to watch it, or that being in a different place makes it more appealing, I am currently bounding through the series, late to the party, and find myself at the start of season 6. This post is a set of thoughts and feelings about some of what's going on, really just conjecture on my part, so if this has been addressed later on in the series, please don’t spoil it for me. Having got in trouble with my partner for looking up when Ramsey Bolton dies, I’m not going Googling about anything else… well except maybe a map because the way the world's displayed in the opening titles confuses me at to where a lot of things are. Before I begin...  Warning: I may be overthinking this. Warning: this is pretty much full frontal nerdity Warning: I may be working for the department of the bleeding obvious. One thing I like about Game of Thrones is that i...

New Things

The last few months have seen a bit of growth for me, in that I'm trying new things and learning about new things. Some, I'm not going into here (private as private can be), but others... well yeah, I can talk about them. Or some of them, I don't want to bore you silly. First, I'm trying a load of food that I've never eaten. I wasn't an adventurous eater as a child and as an adult I've often been guided by my sense of smell; if something smells bad, why would I want to eat it? It's a good rule of thumb but... it means I've missed out on a lot of things and now, if I'm offered the opportunity to try something new, I'm taking it. Last night that meant discovering that I don't mind salmon (which surprised me as I'm not the biggest fish fan), and last week that fried eggs aren't gross. It feels silly to be finding that out now, but I've found it easy to say I don't like something without tasting it based on a childhood mem...

Closing Out the Year

It's been a while since I posted anything here, and I'm sorry for that. Sorry too, because I started this in 2018 and um... Yeah. Hi, it's 2019 now... Oops. Anyway, here we go... The last few months have been hectic with work, visiting friends (and apparently losing them too), sleeping (yes I know that's an odd thing to be hectic with but my current role has exhausted me and I lost about a month of evenings because I was just falling asleep when I got home), making friends, and um, meeting someone special. What writing I've done has largely been squishy, icky, love poetry and essays, though I'm planning out a few things to see which ones get to a point where I can do something with it first. I must admit it's been nice to get my head out of the clouds and feel as if I can deal with the world. It's been a positive experience, overall, one that's affirmed that I'm not some alien from another planet. I've not felt I have to sacrifice ...
